Virgil van Dijk names three things Liverpool FC need to beat Man City to Premier League title

Virgil van Dijk hopes Liverpool can become Manchester City's main title challengers again this season but admits his side will need 'a bit of luck' to do so.

Liverpool have gone into the November international break in second place after leapfrogging Tottenham and Arsenal with Sunday's 3-0 win at home to Brentford. Jurgen Klopp's side have looked closer to their best after a summer rebuild, having failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

That form means that when City and Liverpool meet at the Etihad in less than two weeks' time, it will once again be a battle between the league's top two. The Merseyside club have been Pep Guardiola's most consistent challengers over the last five years, and Van Dijk is hoping his new-look side can follow suit.

“I hope so," Van Dijk replied when asked if Liverpool are ready to challenge City again. "I looked in the dressing room (on Sunday) and it felt like we were the Under-23s. But still we have the quality, if you are good enough you are old enough. But we need to see, we need a bit of luck, we need no injuries and need consistency.

"Overall this season we have been doing well but the season is not decided in November and there could be so many twists and turns, we all know that. You have all these aspirations, dreams, goals before the season and you want to compete until the very end in every competition we are in. That is definitely the case at the beginning of the season and then you grow into a season.
