Why Sofyan Amrabat is wearing Manchester United's 2024/25 kit on official club website

Manchester United have failed to remove Sofyan Amrabat from the squad list on their official club website, despite his loan move officially ending 39 days ago.

Amrabat was signed on a season-long loan on deadline day in last summer's transfer window and Fiorentina received a €10million loan fee (around £8.5m) from United.

The option to sign Amrabat on a permanent deal for €25m was included, but the midfielder's opportunities were limited until the end of the season and the clause wasn't triggered.

Amrabat returned to Italy after the expiration of his loan. However, he is still included in the United squad list on their club website and is pictured wearing the 2024/25 kit, which has caught the eye of some confused supporters who have questioned why he hasn't been removed.

Although Amrabat is wearing United's home kit for the 2024/25 season on the website, it's understood the photos for the new campaign weren't recently taken by a photographer.

In an attempt to force a move to United, Amrabat delayed his return to Fiorentina's pre-season this summer, but the Italian media have claimed he has now returned to training.

United need a midfielder before the transfer window closes on August 30 and Erik ten Hag had been due to discuss the possibility of buying Amrabat with new sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada last month.

Amrabat is still considered an option for United and signing him hasn't been ruled out, which means there's still a chance the player will get his dream move to Old Trafford.
