Why Rasmus Hojlund starts for Manchester United vs Brighton and why Aaron Wan-Bissaka is on bench

Erik ten Hag has given Rasmus Hojlund his full Manchester United debut because he feels the striker is ready for it.

Hojlund signed from Atalanta in a deal worth £72million with a back injury and that meant he was forced to wait until the game before the international break against Arsenal on September 3 to make his first appearance.

The forward was brought on from the bench for the last 20 minutes at the Emirates, but he's been given the chance to start against Brighton in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Hojlund will lead the attack and Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes will play on the left and right wings respectively.

Scott McTominay has also been given his first start of the season and there's a debut for Sergio Reguilon at left-back, with the manager preferring Diogo Dalot at right-back over Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was been benched after illness in the week.

Ten Hag spoke to MUTV ahead of kick-off and said: "We will be playing slightly different[system], but in the past, we've played [it] more, City twice in January and in the FA Cup and we were going to do it against Arsenal.

"But Scott McTominay dropped out, so we then had to adjust, but I think this is the right moment for a slightly different system, yeah. We know how to play Brighton, you have to be strong in the pressing, they are brave on the ball, but in transition, you can be dangerous.

"Aaron Wan-Bissaka was ill during the week, so he's not completely fit. Reguilon is doing very well in training, a lot of energy and he understands the game, so we put him in.
