Why Port Vale made transfer return for ex-Bolton Wanderers winger Dennis Politic

Former Bolton Wanderers attacker Dennis Politic has joined League One rivals Port Vale on loan for the campaign.

The 22-year-old has joined Italian outfit Cremonese for an undisclosed fee from Wanderers in January. He put pen to paper on a deal lasting until the summer of 2023.

He joined Wanderers aged 15 and came through the youth ranks at the University of Bolton Stadium. He made his debut for the club in August 2019.

He played a total of 30 times for Bolton in all competitions, scoring five times. Politic spent the first half of last season on loan at Port Vale and racked up 15 appearances with the Valiants, scoring five times.

He has now headed back to the Valiants on a season-long loan and could take on his old side when they meet at the UniBol at the end of February in League One. Vale boss Darrell Clarke has explained that Politic's time at the club last season helped influence the decision for the Burslem side to return for the winger.

Clarke said: "He’s well known at the football club and did well when he was with us last season.

“He’s a player that I think that can step up to the level whether that’s starting or coming off the bench as an impact player and he adds quality to the squad and his signing also gives us options with positional changes if and when we need to make them.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming Dennis back to Vale Park and working with him once again”
