Why Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri 'mocked' Mohamed Salah with Tunisia celebration

Tunisian forward Mohamed Elias Achouri insists Hannibal Mejbri was not the one to instigate a celebration that seemed to mock Mohamed Salah during the international break - and the midfielder was merely copying his teammates.

Manchester United youngster Hannibal came off the bench on Tuesday evening as Tunisia enjoyed a memorable 3-1 win over Egypt. Aissa Laidouni and Hamza Rafia both found the net for the away side, with Egyptian midfielder Hamdi Fathi turning into his own net as well.

Rafia's effort was the third and final goal that sealed it, at which point Hannibal and his teammates gathered by the corner flag to imitate Salah's iconic yoga celebration. The Reds midfielder was reported to have initiated the celebration - which earned a wry smile from the Liverpool winger - but Achouri has rubbished those claims.

"You have to know that it wasn’t Hannibal who started it," Achouri told Danish outlet Tipsbladet. "It was Hamza Rafia who scored the goal.

"He did that cheering scene, but because Hannibal did the same thing, people think he did it because he plays for Manchester United and has something going on with Salah for that reason. But it wasn’t quite like that, as it was Rafia who did it, and he plays in Serie A. He doesn’t care a bit about Liverpool.

"I don’t think it was anything special against Mohamed Salah. It may be the media that drives it up. They sometimes want something to write about, so maybe they have used it."
