Why Man City need to think about Cole Palmer to Brighton and Hove Albion transfer rumours

Following a relatively frustrating campaign, Manchester City starlet Cole Palmer could well be set to leave the club on loan in search of first-team minutes, with Brighton and Hove Albion emerging as potential suitors.

Some had hoped to see the 21-year-old winger become a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side but injuries and poor form meant that his opportunities were limited.

He made 26 appearances in all competitions for City last term, registering just one goal and one assist.

Speaking about his campaign early in the season, the academy graduate said: “It’s been frustrating but I’m not one to stop. The coaches believe in me and they’ve told me that. It’s up to me to prove my ability."

MEN Sport reported late last month that the attacker is set to leave the club on loan, and he will hope to follow the success stories of other City youngsters.

Tommy Doyle, James McAtee and Taylor Harwood-Bellis all thrived during promotion-winning seasons while out on loan last season, and Palmer could soon follow in their footsteps.

Guardiola has made it clear that he wants to integrate some of the aforementioned youngsters into the first team, so appearances for Palmer may be even tougher to come by at City next season.

While a move to the Championship is not out of the question, Palmer may have even loftier ambitions. With an impressive pedigree including featuring at the Euro Under-21 Championship and a handful of Champions League appearances, Palmer has attracted interest from top-flight suitors.
