Why Gary Neville is not at Ipswich vs Man United despite Sky Sports Ruben Amorim interview

Gary Neville will not be in attendance to watch the Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United officially begin.

United face Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League in what will be Amorim's first match as the club's new head coach. The 39-year-old was appointed as Erik ten Hag's replacement earlier this month after spending four years in charge of Sporting Lisbon, where he won the league title in Portugal last season.

Sky Sports will be broadcasting the fixture at Portman Road, but Neville will not be part of the commentary team. The United legend is often part of the Super Sunday coverage, but he will not be in attendance in East Anglia.

Neville was on commentary duty for Sky Sports' coverage of Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday Night Football. The 49-year-old was at the Etihad Stadium to cover City's 4-0 defeat at the hands of Spurs.

After the game, Neville previewed Amorim's first match as United boss and confirmed that he would not be at Portman Road to watch the game with his own eyes.

"It will be really interesting to watch," said Neville on the Gary Neville podcast for Sky Sports. "I'm intrigued to be sitting at home tomorrow, watching Manchester United on Super Sunday with a new manager and a new system.

"Ultimately, there will be no judgement tomorrow [Sunday] as it's just a case of understanding what's going to happen and how the players are going to adapt after just a few days of training."
