Why Ethan Ryan's timely return had added an extra spark to Hull KR
Ethan Ryan's Hull KR career has so far been a roller-coaster of peaks and troughs since making the move over from Bradford. The winger was one of six Bradford players signed by Smith ahead of the 2020 campaign, alongside current teammates Rowan Milnes, Elliot Minchella and Matty Storton with Anesu Mudoti and Joe Keyes also swapping Odsal for Craven Park at the time, the pair no longer are at the club.
The Irish international came with big expectations due to his prolific record when crossing the whitewash. Ryan scored 89 tries in 98 appearances during his time with the Bull's and the capture was seen real coup for the Robins, arriving on a initial two-year deal.
Ryan made his Rovers debut in March 2020 scoring a try in a 30-16 defeat away to Wigan and proved to be a bright spark during a difficult Covid hit campaign for the Robins, he caught the eye with three tries in four Super League appearances, until a broken scaphoid in the cup defeat to Leeds ruled the winger out for the remainder of the season.

2021 was another frustrating year for Ryan. A two-year contract extension was a reward after a fine start to the season, but on the field, Ryan couldn't get going once again and was restricted to five appearances as he watched his teammates reach the Semi-Final of Super League. With Rovers falling at the final hurdle after coming up against a determined Catalan side in a hostile Stade Gilbert Brutus stadium, whilst Ryan nursed another wrist issue.
Ironically, the fracture, identical to the previous setback was on the other wrist from the one he broke earlier that season and when the news broke that he needs surgery once again on KR’s
