Who is Lucas de Bolle? Newcastle United prodigy profiled after Aston Villa inclusion

Newcastle United's squad for the clash with Aston Villa features a player who has not yet tasted Premier League football.

Alongside the likes of new recruit Bruno Guimaraes and senior figures Emil Krafth and Miguel Almiron on the bench is 18-year-old midfielder Lucas de Bolle.

The Scotland-born prodigy has starred for the Magpies at under-23 level, catching the eye of first-team head coach Eddie Howe and earning a call-up to a Premier League squad for the first time.

He is the son of Belgian parents and a product of the esteemed Wallsend Boys Club, which helped to nurture top flight stars such as Alan Shearer and Michael Carrick.

De Bolle has been on the books at St James' Park since 2015 but has made swift progress through the youth ranks and was invited to first-team training when Steve Bruce was at the helm.

He appears to have also left an impression on Bruce's successor and the creative midfielder is now in with a chance of a senior debut.

The teenager was a crucial figure for the Magpies under-18 side in their run to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup last season and has made 10 appearances for the under-23s in the Premier League 2 Division Two so far this campaign.

Although he is still waiting on his first appearance for the first-team, he has tested himself against senior players competitively with the Magpies under-21 side in the Papa John's Trophy.

He was not involved in their 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday but appeared as a substitute in the defeat to League Two outfit Harrogate Town before completing 90 minutes against Mansfield Town, who are also of the fourth tier.
