Who is Jodie Burrage? British Wimbledon wildcard's ranking and career to date

Jodie Burrage is one of five British wildcards to be selected to play women's singles and doubles at this year's Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old tennis player from Kingston-upon-Thames made her SW19 debut in 2021 but failed to make it past the first round. She will be hoping for more luck as she plays Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko today.

Burrage was inspired to get into tennis by her mother, Yvonne, who used to play the sport, according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). She is coached by Joel Cannell and sometimes works with David Felgate.

Burrage is currently ranked at 169 in the world for singles. She achieved the career-high ranking during the Eastbourne International on 20 June 2022.

At the tournment she defeated her first top-five player, world number four Paula Badosa, in straight sets. The win is projected to propel her into the top 150 for the first time.

Playing right-handed, Burrage's favourite shot is a down-the-line backhand, according to the WTA. Her favourite surface is grass, which is handy ahead of her Wimbledon debut.

Burrage has earned $47,635 (£38,835) so far in 2022 when her singles and doubles winnings are combined. It forms a portion of her $250,284 (£204,047) career earnings to date.

All Wimbledon players are guaranteed to earn £50,000 for taking part in round one, even if they lose. That will more than double her 2022 earnings.
