Who is Charlie McNeill? Man United's 600-goal youth team striker Erik ten Hag has called up to his senior squad

Charlie McNeill has trained with Manchester United's first-team this week ahead of Thursday's match against Real Sociedad.

McNeill has gone from strength to strength since re-signing for United from Manchester City two years ago. He has developed into a prolific centre-forward at academy level and he scored 17 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions last term.

The youngster has reportedly scored more than 600 goals across United's youth teams. The 18-year-old has played in all five of United's Premier League 2 fixtures this season and he has a bright future ahead of him.

After McNeill grabbed a superb hat-trick against Bayern Munich in July, fellow academy star Zidane Iqbal jokingly referred to his teammate's performance as "normal" – hinting it's not at all out of the ordinary to see the youngster amongst the goals. But United fans were impressed with the performance as they called for Erik ten Hag to call McNeill up to his first team squad.

It appears that Ten Hag has finally heard the message as he made McNeill train with United's senior players in the build-up to their opening Europa League clash against Real Sociedad on Thursday night, where he could even make his debut. Ten Hag had a record of bringing young players through at his previous club Ajax and it now appears the Dutchman may have found his next project for United.
