John Murtough makes Manchester United academy promise to fans after FA Youth Cup success

Manchester United's football director John Murtough has promised that the club will continue to prioritise the nurturing of youth.

United's U18s defeated Nottingham Forest in the FA Youth Cup last season and that extended the Reds' excellent record in the competition. United have won the Youth Cup (11) more than any other club and the club prides itself on that history.

The club's academy has remained world-class and the promotion of talent to the first-team is a priority for every manager at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag the latest in charge to reward youngsters with chances to train at Carrington.

United added Radek Vitek, Tyler Fredricson, Kobbie Mainoo, Zidane Iqbal, Shola Shoretire and Charlie McNeill to their Europa League squad through the B list earlier this month, while others like Charlie Savage have also been training with the first-team.

Murtough reflected on the club's academy set up on Thursday afternoon and he promised that it will continue to be a priority.

Murtough said: "We are also pleased with the seven additions made to our women’s squad and look forward to seeing the team continue to develop under Marc Skinner after last season’s solid fourth-place finish in the Women’s Super League.

"Another high point this year was our Under-18s men’s Academy team winning the FA Youth Cup for a record 11th time in May in front of over 67,000 fans at Old Trafford – by far the highest attendance ever recorded in the competition.

"And there was also success for our women’s Under-21s, who achieved a fantastic double win of both the National League and the FA Youth Cup. Nurturing of youth will always remain a cornerstone of this club.
