Who could be the next Manchester United manager if Erik ten Hag is sacked

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is facing increased speculation that Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City will be his last in charge of the club.

The Dutchman has overseen a difficult second season at Old Trafford with the Reds finishing eighth in the Premier League and crashing out of the Champions League in the group stages. MEN Sport's sources at United have kept tight-lipped regarding the future of the boss, insisting the focus remains fully on this weekend's fixture.

However, numerous reports elsewhere have suggested that Ten Hag will not be in charge next season and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be on the hunt for a new manager. But who could be the replacement? The Manchester Evening News have taken a closer look at the options...

Earlier this year, we reported that INEOS favoured Roberto De Zerbi after they were impressed with the work he has done at Brighton and Hove Albion. Since then, the Italian has left the South Coast club but insisted that he had not been offered a role elsewhere.

On Thursday, MEN Sport reported that United had contacted their former assistant manager Kieran McKenna. The Ipswich Town boss led the Tractor Boys to back-to-back promotions and it is believed his preference would be to return to Old Trafford despite interest from Chelsea and Brighton.

Former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel would love to return to the Premier League, especially with United. Meanwhile, the new free agent Mauricio Pochettino has previously expressed his desire to manage the Reds and was Ten Hag's main competitor for the job in 2022.
