Who are Man City's potential Club World Cup opponents?

Manchester City will face one of Club Leon or Urawa Red Diamonds as they open their FIFA Club World Cup challenge.

City will play against either the Mexican or Japanese challengers when they play in their semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup as the Blues look to become champions of the world after their European triumph in June.

We've looked at both of City's potential semi-final opponents ...

Urawa Red Diamonds are a Japanese side based in the city of Saitama, close to Yokohama.

The Reds are joint second for most Asian Champions League wins, claiming three titles. Despite their victories in both the Asian Champions League and the Japanese Super Cup, Urawa Red Diamonds finished last season ninth in the J-League table, 23 points off the top spot.

Some of the ex-players that have featured for Urawa Red Diamonds include Shinji Ono, recent Liverpool signing Waturu Endo and former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund striker Michael Rumenigge.

The Japanese outfit play at the Saitama Stadium which has a capacity of just over 63,000. The ground was used to host the 2002 World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games and is the largest football-specific stadium in Japan.

Some Manchester United fans may be familiar with the name Urawa Red Diamonds, with United hosting the Red Diamonds in 2004’s ‘Vodafone Cup.’ However, a ball was not kicked in this match with the game being rained off and some 800 travelling supporters disappointed.

Three years later, in 2007, United would be held to a 2-2 draw against Urawa, where Shinji Ono scored a fine equaliser.
