Whitstable Town manager Jamie Coyle concedes he is struggling to pick regular frontline despite striker Jack Nelson bagging brace for table-topping Oystermen in 2-0 weekend win
Whitstable continue to impress on multiple fronts - but boss Jamie Coyle concedes they are still struggling to field a regular frontline.
The Oystermen, sitting pretty at the Southern Counties East League Premier Division summit, saw off Chislehurst Glebe 2-0 thanks to striker Jack Nelson’s second-half double last weekend.
It was a fifth successive victory for Whitstable and a ninth win in a row on the road.
But on their attacking options, Coyle admitted: “It’s been really difficult.
“We’re trying to get some consistency with our front three. Nathan Jeche was unavailable and Malachai Belboda had been unavailable the previous weekend due to a wedding so he came back in.
“Jack Nelson was suspended last Tuesday [for the top-of-the-table 2-1 win at Larkfield & New Hythe] so we’re having to constantly change things around in the final third. They have got to get used to how each other plays.
“Jack was brilliant on Saturday but, in the FA Vase, he’s cup-tied. It’s really difficult to manage.
“That’s why we have tried to at least be consistent with our back five, outside of Jayden Boulton coming in and out of the team. We want to get to a stage in the final third where it’s similar.
“Obviously, it was the same last season where, if you sign players in the season, you know that they probably cannot play in the Vase.
"But Isaac Currie came in from Welling and he really shored up our midfield."
It took Whitstable more than an hour to break the deadlock but, after Nelson had done so, he struck again just over 10 minutes later, making the most of defender Will Thomas’ knockdown from attacking midfielder Bradley Schafer’s cross for his second.
“It was really important,” reflected Coyle. “We had a huge top-of-the-table clash last
