When the first Hibs vs Hearts clash is as 2022-23 Premiership fixtures are released

The first Edinburgh derby will take place in just the second week of the new season after the Premiership fixtures were released this morning.

Hearts went unbeaten in the capital clashes last season, drawing at Tynecastle and Easter Road before sealing third place with a 3-1 win over their rivals and Gorgie, a wee before dumping Hibs out of the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

And they'll head across the capital early doors on Saturday August 6 for the first instalment of the fixture next campaign in just the second week of the season.

Lee Johnson knows Tynecastle well, having played alongside Robbie Neilson in maroon for a spell back in 2006.

He was back as Sunderland boss for a pre-season friendly last summer, but will be back on more serious business on Monday 2 January.

It's back to Leith on Saturday 15 April for the final derby before the split, and the Hibees will be hoping there's another to come next season after finishing in the bottom half last term.

The sides haven't faced off four times in the league since the 2018/19 season.

The 2019/20 campaign was ended prematurely thanks to Covid, which saw the jambos demoted to the Championship.

The Hibees finished third in their absence before battle resumed last year and the Gorgie boys replaced their rivals as Scottish football's third force.
