When are the Premier League fixtures released and when does the season start?

Attention is already turning to the new Premier League season, with the fixtures for the upcoming campaign announced this week.

The new season is still over seven weeks away, with the usual summer transfer talk set to dominate the agenda before the actual football gets underway.

However, the release of the fixtures will see fans across the country start to plan their season ahead as they pick out the key dates on their team’s calendar.

The fixtures for the 2022/23 Premier League season will be released on Thursday 16 June at 9am.

All the details will be here on Metro.co.uk.

The new Premier League season will get underway on the weekend of 6/7 August.

The transfer window remains open well into the new season, only closing on Thursday 1 September.

Premier League fixtures will be played up until the weekend of 12/13 November and resume on Boxing Day, coming to a conclusion on 28 May.

The Championship pauses on 12/13 November and returns on 10/11 December, with League One and League Two continuing as normal.

The Qatar World Cup runs from 21 November to 18 December.

The EFL is starting earlier than usual this year, with the first games played on 30/31 July.

EFL fixtures will be released on Thursday 23 June, a week after the Premier League’s.

Scottish Premiership fixtures are announced on Friday 17 June.
