When does the transfer window close? Deadline time and date for summer 2022

The summer transfer window is now open and it’s already proving to be busier than the relatively quiet one from January this year.

Big moves in the Premier League this summer have seen Man City and Liverpool land themselves new strikers, in the shape of Erling Haarland and Darwin Nunez, the latter joining the club for a record fee.

Paul Pogba leaving Man United and Romelu Lukaku moving to Inter Milan on loan have also attracted attention – and there’s plenty more business to be done before the transfer window closes.

Just when will that be?

The Premier League transfer window closes on Thursday September 1 at 11pm.

The transfer window for the EFL slams shut at the same time as the top flight, while the Spanish, German, Italian and French transfer windows also close on 1 September.

The new Premier League season begins before the window is shut, with the competition set to restart on August 6 – meaning that there could still be plenty of transfer activity as the season starts getting into gear.

Any transfer business will be put on ice until the winter window, which opens on January 1 2023.

The football season itself will also be put on pause to make way for the FIFA 2022 World Cup, taking place in Qatar.

While the tournament is normally a summer affair, Qatar’s intense summer heat has meant that this World Cup will be held from November 21 to December 18.

Some players could well emerge as potential new stars -across the tournament, making them hot new targets in the winter transfer market.
