What Southampton star James Ward-Prowse has said about his future amid Manchester United links

James Ward-Prowse has already spoken about his future amid links with a move to Manchester United.

United are looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer with Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice both having been linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, according to The Sun, Ward-Prowse is also a potential target for the Reds.

Having read the speculation surrounding Ward-Prowse's future, former Chelsea man Tony Cascarino was not surprised to see the Saints' captain touted as a United target. He told The Times: "It was interesting to see James Ward-Prowse linked with a move to Manchester United.

"At 27, the Southampton midfielder is entering the peak years of his career and if he is not content with being a one-club man, now may be the time for a big move. Ward-Prowse is so much more than simply a dead-ball expert (though there are few better than him from corners and free kicks).

"He is brilliant at keeping the ball and helping his team dictate play. I can see why Erik ten Hag may fancy him."

Ward-Prowse has previously spoken about his future away from St Mary's. He said last summer: "It was the first time that I have faced that kind of speculation, so it was a different challenge.

"I was also trying to come back from a knee injury at the time, so I had a few obstacles in the way during an important part of the season with pre-season going on, trying to build up my fitness and that capacity up was difficult. When I sat down and spoke with the club, it was immediately obvious that they were keen for everything to be sorted out.
