What Rangers players made of Pedro Caixinha's bush barney with fans as Kenny Miller leaves everyone in stitches

It's one of the iconic images that summed up Rangers' struggles at the time.

Pedro Caixinha standing in a bush, remonstrating with raging punters after an embarrassing defeat to minnows Progres Niederkorn. But Kenny Miller has revealed how the players realised what their manager was up to and he was preparing to stage a rescue act to get his floundering boss out of the shrubbery and the fans' firing line.

The Light Blues were dumped out of the Europa League before the domestic season had even started, as the part-timers from Luxembourg recorded their first ever win on continental competition. But there was to be no dignity in defeat as the Portuguese sound himself ankle deep in greenery outside the stadium, trying to appease disgruntled diehards. And club stalwart Miller admitted he thought he was going to have to intervene as Caixinha showed no sign of letting up and his sleeping squad waiting on the coach to get the hell out of dodge.

Asked on the Open Goal podcast about managerial run ins with fans after St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson got into a shouting match at Livingston, Miller replied: "We had Pedro in the bush didn't we? I'm sitting on the bus and I was genuinely thinking 'I'm going to need to go out and get him out of that bush.'

"We were just sitting and somebody says 'the f****** gaffer's there in the bush, arguing with the fans.' Obviously you can see the pictures now.

"I'm thinking I'm going to have to go and f****** get him in here. I think security were eventually like 'come on, you need to get on the bus. He's got a couple of thorns in his Steffi Graffs (calfs)."
