What Pep Guardiola did when answering Premier League question speaks volumes for Man City

Time has not made Pep Guardiola any happier about the Manchester City schedule.

One of his press conferences last week was used to fume about the turnarounds the Blues are being asked to do, with particular scorn for the short time between Villa and Palace this week, and then Real Madrid and their FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea in a few weeks. Guardiola then described it as unfair on Friday as he continues to make his frustration known.

The frustration is only there though because he cares so much. After seven years in England and three consecutive Premier League titles, the Catalan is still striving with everything he can to win again - even if that means not giving Real Madrid all the attention he wants to.

Guardiola is most closely associated with the Champions League in his career; first because he won it twice in his first three years of coaching Barcelona in what was a spectacular story, and then because it was an albatross around his neck growing heavier with every year he didn't. The fact he and City finally managed to win it in Istanbul last year means they are "at peace" with the competition.

However, the serial winner in Guardiola is a sucker for a league title. For all the glamour of European nights, the man who got the Barcelona job by making waves away from the spotlight in the Spanish fourth division values the grit more highly.

Including that title with Barcelona B, the City manager has won the league title in 11 out of his 15 years of coaching. Another triumph this season would mean he is averaging three league titles every four years.
