‘What Marco would’ve wanted...' Popular Greater Manchester pizzeria to reopen for first time since death of co-owner

A beloved pizza restaurant and takeaway in Trafford is to reopen for the first time since the death of its co-owner.

Marco Carboni, who ran the Ceresis pizzeria with his partner Valentina, passed away in May at the age of 49. He died just two months after being told that his cancer was terminal.

Following his death, Valentina shared a heart-breaking tribute to Marco saying he had ‘put all his efforts’ into the pizzeria on Northenden Road in Sale Moor. The venue had become known for being one of the only Roman-style pizzerias in the city-region.

The couple’s friend Sharon Coen started a fundraising campaign to help support Valentina and the pair’s young children following Marco’s passing. The fundraiser surpassed its initial £2,000 target and raised more than £3,000 for the family.

Following Marco’s diagnosis earlier this year, the family had moved back to his hometown of Rome, where he passed away on May 17. Now, Valentina has announced that Ceresis will open its doors once again today (July 12)

In an update on social media, she said it’s ‘what Marco would’ve wanted’, and the venue will open from midday today in memory of him.

Valentia wrote: “I thought I’d write this post to update you all on our recent absence; not only from opening every day and pouring our hearts and souls into authentic Roman pizza but also from social media.

“Thanks you from all our heart for your warm support and material help, all your thoughts and love to us these cruel months. I am back with kids and I see you all welcoming us back with a love I couldn't imagine, thank you each one of you for this I wish to hug you all to me, means the world to us now
