What Manchester United midfielder Casemiro said to Neymar after breaking Brazil record

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has congratulated Neymar on breaking Pele's goalscoring record for Brazil on Saturday.

Casemiro is currently one of several United players away on international duty, representing Brazil in their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The 31-year-old started at the heart of midfield as his side thumped Bolivia 5-1.

Real Madrid star Rodrygo scored a brace either side of Raphinha's effort, but Neymar grabbed the headlines by making history with goals four and five. In netting twice, the 31-year-old surpassed Pele as the country's leading male goalscorer.

He went into the game tied level with the footballing legend, and his luck seemed to be out when he missed a first-half penalty. But his two goals saw him claim the record outright.

After the game, Casemiro tweeted: "Spectacular first step towards the next World Cup. Thank you to all our Belém fans and congratulations to @neymarjr for making history with the team!!"

After the opening round of games in the qualifiers, Brazil sit top of the South American standings on goal difference, with Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia also winning. Casemiro and his teammates take on Peru in their second qualifier on Wednesday.

Casemiro and Neymar have been teammates with the Brazilian national team for some time, with both currently 31 years old. The pair had been rivals at club level for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Neymar secured a big-money move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal over the summer, while Casemiro is hoping to help United improve on last season's third-place finish in the Premier League.
