Manchester United make offer to Aston Villa transfer target as £15m battle begins

Manchester United have reportedly offered Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen a contract.

Eriksen, 30, is in-demand after an impressive six months with Brentford relaunched his career after he suffered a cardiac arrest at last summer’s European Championships. Aston Villa are among the Premier League clubs to have been linked with Eriksen.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard has already reinforced his squad with the addition of attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho, as well as goalkeeper Robin Olsen, defender Diego Carlos and French anchorman Boubacar Kamara. Further surgery is required to Villa’s squad, but Gerrard’s focus is now believed to be on recruiting a left-sided defender.

Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard are set to 'prioritise' loaning the best young prospects within their ranks to former assistant head coach Michael Beale at Queens Park Rangers, according to reports.

Beale, who made the switch with Gerrard from Rangers to Villa last November, was announced as the new QPR boss at the beginning of June and has since been replaced by former Blackpool manager Neil Critchley on Gerrard's coaching staff.

According to The Express, Gerrard will now 'prioritise' QPR when deciding where the very best prospects within Villa's academy go out on loan. Players who could be made available include Tim Iroegbunam, Cameron Archer, Kaine Kesler Hayden, Louie Barry and Aaron Ramsey.
