What just happened in Cardiff City's two pre-season games against Bristol Rovers

Cardiff City came away with a draw and a win from their two pre-season games against Bristol Rovers.

Callum Robinson and Ollie Tanner were on the scoresheet for Erol Bulut's side, while we saw first Bluebirds appearances for Ike Ugbo and Dimitrios Goutas. There were also welcome Cardiff returns for Jamilu Collins and Callum O'Dowda, too.

The games, which took place at Cardiff City Stadium, were portioned into two lots of 60 minutes, with a mini-break in each half after 30 minutes.

And it's fair to say, in the first game, the visitors were the better of the two sides in the first half, so to speak, pressing aggressively and pulling City about with some quick and neat passing.

Rovers had particular joy down Cardiff's left and that is where the first goal came from. Joel Bagan was dragged out of position and Sam Finley played an incisive pass in behind to Luke Thomas, who only had to square it to Scott Sinclair for the tap-in.

Cardiff grew into it after the first 30-minute break, though, and looked more settled. In fact, Kion Etete should have headed the Bluebirds into the lead when Sheyi Ojo put a cross on a plate for him, but the big striker headed over the bar from just five yards out.

Cardiff's equaliser came through some shrewd defending from Perry Ng, who stole the ball near halfway before releasing Ojo, who wasted no time in turning the ball into Robinson's path. Robinson drove at the Gas defence before shifting on to his left foot and belting home from 20 yards out. His third goal in three games, showing the new manager the quality he possesses.
