What Gibbs-White told Bruno Lage & first impressions of Nathan Collins after Wolves run riot

Wolverhampton Wanderers kicked off their quartet of pre-season matches in Spain with a resounding 4-0 victory over Alaves.

Raul Jimenez (pen), Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence put Wolves in command before Max Kilman channelled his inner Diego Maradona to run 70-plus yards, taking on four Alaves players in the process, and coolly slot underneath the onrushing goalkeeper. Wolves have won all three of their pre-season matches to date, and they have now scored 11 goals in the process, conceding just once.

Wolves have three more matches in Spain to come against Levante, Besiktas and Villarreal B, although the Besiktas game is the only one being played in front of an audience. Here are our findings from Wolves’ first match in Spain…

Morgan Gibbs-White’s long-term future at Wolves is in doubt due to the fact the midfielder hasn’t yet agreed a new contract. But his efforts in pre-season prove that he is fully focused on forcing his way into Lage’s starting line-up.

The midfielder was very impressive against Alaves, dovetailing superbly with Neto and Jonny Castro Otto in particular. Gibbs-White may have started the game on the right, but he drifted inside constantly and was given free rein to wreak havoc.

In taking up intelligent positions around Neto and Jimenez, Gibbs-White proved too difficult to contain for the Alaves backline. He grabbed an assist with a faint flick through to Neto, who finished precisely across the goalkeeper.

Gibbs-White was one of four players withdrawn before the 60th minute by Lage, which means he will most likely feature in today’s behind-closed-doors clash with Levante.
