What fans chanted when Trincao went down as Bruno Lage’s Wolves gamble backfires

Tomas Soucek handed West Ham victory on Sunday to further dent Wolverhampton Wanderers’ European hopes.

The Czech Republic international netted just before the hour-mark at the London Stadium after being teed up by Michail Antonio.

The defeat means Wolves have lost back-to-back games in the capital in the space of four days and leaves them playing catch up in the race for Europe.

Wolves are currently eighth in the Premier League table, five points behind fifth-placed West Ham - although the Molineux men do have a game-in-hand. Manchester United currently occupy fourth spot, with Arsenal in sixth and Tottenham Hotspur in seventh.

Here are our findings from another narrow loss for Lage’s men in London…

The Wolves boss has got it right far more often than he’s got it wrong this season, but his gamble against West Ham backfired. Changes were needed after Wolves’ defeat to Arsenal, and Lage’s decision to rotate his wing-backs and rest Joao Moutinho’s 35-year-old legs made sense initially.

Raul Jimenez’s form has been inconsistent of late, and he missed two big chances against Arsenal, so his omission from the line-up was acceptable.

But dropping Daniel Podence - who was so effective in the Molineux match against West Ham - was more than a little odd. Podence created three goal scoring chances for his teammates at The Emirates, and has been the team’s most creative outlet in recent months.

Lage admitted his mistake in the 60th minute by replacing Trincao with Podence, but Wolves’ number 10 couldn’t find his rhythm off the bench.
