Bruno Lage says Wolverhampton Wanderers needed to freshen things up to compete with West Ham as he jumped to Francisco Trincao’s defence.
Wolves’ line-up against West Ham showed five changes from the defeat to Arsenal on Thursday, with key players Joao Moutinho, Daniel Podence and Raul Jimenez all benched. Leander Dendoncker, Trincao and Fabio Silva started in place of the aforementioned trio.
Ki-Jana Hoever made his first start in two months with Nelson Semedo missing due to a hamstring injury, while Marcal also replaced Rayan Ait-Nouri at left wing-back.
Tomas Soucek netted the winner for West Ham in the second half as Wolves lost in London for the second time this week.
Explaining his team selection, Lage said: “They are a hard team to play and if you want to come and play with the same energy as them, we need to make some changes.
“We changed players that usually also play. Trincao has
