What Celtic are set to bank from Matt O'Riley transfer exit as record-breaking Brighton offer 'revealed'

Brighton have reportedly tabled a £25m deal that looks set to take Matt O'Riley from Celtic this summer.

The in-demand midfielder was the subject of five bids from Atalanta - the highest reaching £23.5m after add-ons - but the Europa League winners eventually admitted defeat in their pursuit with the Scottish Premiership champions sticking to their asking price. The would turn to Lazar Samardzic instead and clear a path for the English Premier League side to take O'Riley from Celtic Park.

Reports now suggest that the fee for the 23-year-old will break the record for a sale in Scottish football that currently stands at £25m - following Kieran Tierney's move to Arsenal in 2019. The Celtic Way report that Brighton have tabled a £25m offer for O'Riley with a sell-on fee included in the deal that will take the payday beyond the record set by by Tierney's move to North London.

It is claimed that Celtic will hold a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal with negotiations progressing this week. It is noted the final payday is expected to "eclipse" the fees received for Tierney and Jota - when he joined Al-Ittihad last summer.
