What Bruno Fernandes was told during meeting with INEOS as he makes Manchester United admission

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has confirmed he has met with members of the Ineos Group to inform them that he wants to be part of their project to take the club forward.

The petrochemical giant, spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, secured a 27.7 per cent stake in United last month. As part of the deal, they have secured control of the club's football operations.

Ratcliffe has wasted no time making his mark, raiding Manchester City for Omar Berrada, who has been installed as United's new chief executive, while targeting a move for Dan Ashworth. The latter is currently on gardening leave from Newcastle United after informing the Magpies of his desire to become United's inaugural sporting director.

Ratcliffe plans to get United back on an even keel with Manchester City and Liverpool, vowing to knock the two clubs "off their perch" within three years. Though that means trying to win the Premier League title and other trophies, all Fernandes demands is that United, at the very least, can be more competitive than they have been.

"I've always told the club that I don't want to be promised that we're going to be champions because whatever club I go to, I don't expect to be promised something that they can't fulfil from the start," Fernandes told A BOLA.

"What I've always asked for and what I want from the club is for us to be competitive. This year we haven't been and we don't have to hide it. The season has been below our expectations, below my expectations, at least.
