What Andre Onana did after Manchester United vs Bayern Munich showed dressing room change

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana endured a difficult evening in Munich on Wednesday night as the Reds slipped to defeat in their opening Champions League group stage game.

While Onana could do little to prevent three of Bayern's goals, many critics focused on the opening goal as Leroy Sane's strike slipped through the gloves of the Cameroonian. United fans have become used to silly mistakes from their players costing the team points, but Onana's response to the error was refreshing to see.

It would have been easy for Onana to hide in the background and allow his manager to take all the heat, but the former Inter man took responsibility. He took part in an interview post-match and held his hands up to the error that cost his side.

Now, an apology does not change the result but it does show the squad's mentality. Prior to the trip to Munich, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about his time at United with The Athletic.

Solskjaer's damning indictment of unnamed United players' attitudes during his spell at the club was embarrassing to read. "Some weren't as good as their own perception of themselves," he explained.

"I won't name names, but I was very disappointed when a couple turned down the chance to be captain. I was also disappointed when others said they wouldn't play or train because they wanted to force their way out.

"When you have a group you need everyone to pull in the same direction. When things didn't go right, you could see certain players and egos came out."
