What Amanda Staveley said about Manchester United after Newcastle's Carabao Cup final defeat

Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley laid down an immediate statement of intent following her side's Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester United in February.

The Magpies are currently the subject of an ongoing Amazon Prime series called 'We Are Newcastle United', which takes a look behind the scenes at the club following the takeover by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, led by Staveley.

The second episode of the series covers Newcastle's 2-0 Carabao Cup final defeat to United. The Reds had not won any silverware since 2017 and ended their trophy drought by beating Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley, with goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford settling matters.

And in the aftermath of the defeat, Staveley opened up on her commercial ambitions for Newcastle - as they plan to rival United for both silverware and in the transfer market. And the Magpies co-owner knows the club will need to be able to spend big if they are to catch their rivals.

Speaking in the second episode of 'We Are Newcastle United', Staveley said: "It is what it is. We move on. Man U' played well, but Man U' have spent a lot of money. They have the commercial revenues to allow them to spend. We don't.
