West Lothian teenager scoops medal at Commonwealth Youth Games

Livingston’s Jessica Heeps scooped a sensational silver medal in the women’s triathlon event at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

The 17-year-old produced a brilliant display across all three events - swimming, cycling and running - to cross the finish line in 33.17. That marks was 24 seconds behind Australia’s gold medal winner Aspen Anderson and 45 seconds ahead of Maja Brinkmann of Namibia, who claimed the bronze medal.

Jessica was a model of consistency across the event as her time of 4.33 in the swim saw her in second place after the first event.

Anderson passed her on the bike in the second leg of the triathlon but she stayed firmly in the silver medal position.

The Aussie pulled away in the run but Jessica put in a terrific shift to ensure nobody would be passing her for second place on the podium.
