West Lothian ace Peter Wright falls short of guiding Scotland to third World Cup title

Peter 'Snakebite' Wright's bid for a third World Cup of Darts title fell at the final hurdle as Scotland suffered a 10-2 loss to Wales in Germany.

Wright, and his team-mate Gary Anderson, had been in impressive form but were simply outclassed by the Welsh pairing of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton - who went one better than last year having lost out to Australia in the 2022 edition of the competition.

The Scots were seeded fourth and got things up and running with an 8-5 second round win over the Philippines before a remarkable 8-0 quarter-final whitewash of France.

That set up a semi-final battle against a surprise Germany team after they had knocked out top seeds England in the quarter-final. Livingston-born Wright and his partner Anderson were too strong for the host nation with Martin Schindler and Gabriel Clemens being defeated 8-5.

In the other semi, Wales edged out Belgium 8-7 in a thriller before breezing past the Scots in a surprisingly one-sided final.
