Michael Carrick's dream start to life in charge of United continued at the weekend with a 2-0 home victory over Tottenham extending his perfect record to four wins from four. The victory consolidated United's place in the top four as they target a return to the Champions League.

A win at relegation-threatened West Ham tonight will move Carrick's side above Aston Villa and into third ahead of Villa's match with Brighton on Wednesday.

United remain without Mason Mount, Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt for the trip to the capital but otherwise have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Owen Hargreaves spoke to the Manchester Evening News this week on a range of United topics.

The 45-year-old has earned a reputation as one of the most articulate pundits in the business, and believes it would be a no-brainer for United to give Michael Carrick the job if he steers the club into the Champions League.

"I don’t see how you couldn’t give it to him," said Hargreaves. "What would have been the point of working that hard? You can get elite managers in, but that doesn't guarantee success."
