West Ham suffer injury scare to key man ahead of Aston Villa visit
West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has avoided a serious injury ahead of the Irons’ meeting with Aston Villa this coming weekend.
Leominster-born Bowen, 25, has been in red-hot form in front of goal this season for David Moyes; he has 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions but he suffered in a clash with former Hull City teammate Andy Robertson at the weekend as Liverpool edged West Ham out at Anfield.
Having initially looked to continue, Bowen was eventually helped off the field by West Ham medical staff and he went for an MRI scan back in London the morning after the 1-0 defeat.
Thankfully for Bowen and the club, the results confirmed that he’d avoided a serious injury to his right heel.
“Jarrod underwent an MRI scan in London on Sunday morning and, thankfully, no significant injury has occurred,” said West Ham’s head of medical Richard Collinge. “He will continue to be monitored by the medical team and will undergo further examination in the coming days.”
West Ham play Sevilla in the first leg of their last 16 Europa League clash on Thursday, before they welcome Villa to the London Stadium on Sunday.
Though Bowen has been able to avoid a long-term injury, it remains to be seen whether he’ll remain in contention to take on Sevilla and Villa this coming week.
Villa, of course, are flying again after following up disappointing results against Newcastle and Watford with wins over Brighton and Southampton.
