West Ham: Moyes could bring 'phenomenal' 74-goal star to London Stadium

West Ham re-signing Jesse Lingard is a “no-brainer” if the Hammers can propose a suitable offer to the attacker, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Hammers have tried and failed to bring the 29-year-old back to the London Stadium in each of the last two windows, but the England international will almost certainly leave Manchester United in the summer, with his Old Trafford contract expiring next month.

Having directly contributed to 14 goals in 16 games to help West Ham qualify for the Europa League last season, the Hammers have since been keen on reuniting with him.

However, he stayed at United last summer when the Londoners were keen on a permanent deal, while the Red Devils weren’t willing to let him sign for a direct top four rival when Moyes’ side were sniffing around in January.

But their best chance of signing Lingard, described as ‘phenomenal’ by talkSPORT reporter Adrian Durham, might be about to come, with the boyhood United fan set to become a free agent in the coming months.

However, despite Lingard being available for nothing, he’s demanding wages of around £150,000 per-week, which recently led to Newcastle ending their interest in him.

But O’Rourke reckons that if West Ham can compromise, and come up with a suitable package, then it’s a “no-brainer”.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Although his wage demands do seem to be pricing him out of a move to Newcastle, I think if West Ham come up with a deal, it should be a no-brainer to get Jesse Lingard back.

“He’s going to improve the squad, he’s been there before, he knows the squad and David Moyes knows all about him as well.”
