West Ham: Moyes could target star 'in the Lingard mould' at London Stadium

West Ham United have been tipped to ‘look at’ bringing in a new number 10 and striker this summer by Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Hammers finished a memorable campaign in seventh position in the Premier League table and are widely expected to strengthen David Moyes’ first-team squad when the transfer market reopens next month.

After ending the 2020/21 campaign in sixth place, West Ham reached the Europa League semi-finals this time around, treating their supporters to a deep run in a continental competition.

However, large sections of the fanbase were still left disappointed at the capital club’s lack of action in the January window, with no new faces arriving to help their fight on multiple fronts.

And that was despite first-choice centre-back Angelo Ogbonna picking up a season-ending knee injury in November, while Michail Antonio remained the only recognised striker in Moyes’ setup.

The output of former loan star Jesse Lingard was also not replaced as summer signing Nikola Vlasic scored just one goal in 19 Premier League appearances while failing to provide a single assist.

Lingard registered nine goals and five assists in just 16 top-flight fixtures last term, and Taylor believes a similar player in his ‘mould’ will be targeted by West Ham alongside a new forward.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “A number 10 in the Lingard mould (may be targeted).

“The way Antonio against Manchester City was pulling the defenders wide, and nobody was really filling that space that he was vacating. So, I think a number 10 or another striker could be something they look at 100 percent.”
