West Ham 'chuffed' over major deadline day development at London Stadium

West Ham United are ‘chuffed’ that they have been able to keep Craig Dawson at the London Stadium after the central defender gained extensive interest on deadline day, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Hammers have recovered from a worrying start to the season by embarking on a three-match unbeaten run and they have now managed to retain Dawson’s services.

Dawson went into deadline day locked in talks over a £5.25million move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, the central defender failed to complete a switch to Molineux due to West Ham pulling the plug on the deal after missing out on Southampton star Jan Bednarek.

The Hammers held discussions over a loan move for the Poland international after Dawson had gained interest from Wolves and Aston Villa.

But Bednarek has chosen to join the latter instead of heading to east London and he is expected to sign on the dotted line ahead of the 11pm deadline as a deal is in place.

His decision to go to Villa Park has resulted in Dawson, who has made 74 appearances for West Ham, being denied a move away from the London Stadium.

Jones understands that West Ham boss David Moyes was always keen to retain Dawson’s services despite gaining interest from Premier League rivals.

With the 32-year-old centre-half not going anywhere in the final stages of the transfer window, the journalist believes the Hammers are pleased.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “The club had held hope that Dawson could be talked into staying and they’re pretty chuffed that is going to be the case.”

Moyes has certainly been backed by the Irons’ board this summer.

Lucas Paqueta has arrived in a club-record deal from Lyon, while the Scot now has a viable understudy to Michail Antonio in the form of Gianluca
