West Ham display shows Pep Guardiola who should make up Man City attack on final day
After some superb displays against Newcastle and Wolves, it was a shock for most Manchester City fans that Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling were not in the starting line-up against West Ham on Sunday, but it was even more surprising to see them not even come off the bench.
Pep Guardiola's side are just three points from the Premier League title after a heroic comeback against the Hammers, but City's all-round performance lacked the authority that has been displayed in recent weeks. It was clumsy, uncoordinated and uncharacteristically nervy for a team full of experienced internationals, who have been there and done it on multiple occasions.
Fans have bemoaned the defensive problems, but Sunday's performance will have surely shown Guardiola who his most in-form front three are, going into the final day. It's crazy to think that Riyad Mahrez - who has been so reliable from the spot all season - had a chance to win the game for City in the closing stages. After a pretty abject performance, it would have been potentially the Blues' result of the season.

Comparing Sunday to Wednesday was absolute chalk and cheese. At Molineux, the dynamism of Sterling and Foden completely picked-apart the Wolves backline and allowed Kevin De Bruyne the space to do what he does best. You feel there was a chance for them to do the same against Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell, but Guardiola opted to rotate his forward line.
Grealish and Mahrez are City's lock-pickers; against tight and compact defences they can be nimble in and around the penalty area and create openings. The issue in this particular game is West Ham are not a team to sit back and invite
