West Ham 'definitely like' £30m defender amid London Stadium interest

West Ham United have not listed Everton defender as a ‘tier one target’ as David Moyes believes he can get better value for money by luring overseas stars to the London Stadium and exploiting the free agent market, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Hammers failed to bolster their squad with fresh faces in January, but they could look to take advantage when the summer window opens for business.

According to the Daily Star, West Ham will swoop for Keane if Everton are condemned to the drop at the end of the season.

The report suggests Hammers boss Moyes is a big admirer of the 12-cap England international and could seal the deal if a bid worth in the region of £20million is lodged.

That would result in Everton taking a hit on Keane as they forked out a fee of up to £30million to acquire the 29-year-old from Burnley close to five years ago.

But the Toffees may be left with little choice but to cash-in if they suffer relegation to the Championship, which remains a distinct possibility after dropping into the Premier League’s bottom three last weekend.

Keane’s current Goodison Park deal, worth £69,000-per-week, is not due to expire until the summer of 2025.

Jones does not believe that Keane is seen by West Ham as a priority and, instead, Moyes could look to sign players whose contracts are set to expire.

However, the transfer insider understands the Hammers boss is a fan of the central defender.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they’ll look on the continent first and also the free agent market is opening up quite nicely.

“It’s a tricky one because they definitely like him, but he’s not a tier one target, I wouldn’t say.”
