West Ham 'could target' £45k-a-week striker at the London Stadium

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah would be a “good option” for West Ham this summer, although the Gunners still want him to stay in north London, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The £9m-rated frontman is out of contract this summer and is wanted by several Premier League clubs, including the Hammers.

Despite Nketiah, described as ‘dangerous‘ by ex-Premier League player Noel Whelan, coming to the front with crucial braces against Chelsea and Leeds in recent weeks, the 22-year-old could still leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham have moved to the front of the queue for Nketiah’s services, with the report stating that David Moyes’ side are in pole position to capture the free transfer.

The Hammers remain in desperate need of a striker having failed to replace Sebastien Haller, who left for Ajax more than 15 months ago.

Arsenal have already offered Nketiah, who’s played 89 times for the club, a new deal, and Jones reckons that even though West Ham want to sign him, he could also extend his stay with the Gunners.

But Nketiah’s five top-flight starts this season have come in Arsenal’s last five games, and the journalist believes that the young striker is having reservations about staying at the Emirates over a potential lack of game-time.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “At this moment Nketiah is more likely to leave Arsenal than stay and he is a very good option for a club like West Ham to target.

“Arsenal want him to stay but he’s still not convinced he’ll get enough games so Arteta will have to win him over – or he’ll go.”
