West Ham: £60m signing would be 'massive statement' at London Stadium

West Ham can make a “massive statement” by signing Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, believes Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 27-year-old is being linked with a move to the London Stadium, and Brown thinks he would be a huge addition to David Moyes’ squad.

According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham are targeting Ward-Prowse as Moyes looks to bring in a new midfielder.

The Scotsman has a bit of a headache in that area of the pitch to say the least, with Mark Noble retiring, while both Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are yet to sign new contracts.

Signing Ward-Prowse this summer, though, could be an extremely difficult task.

Back in April, the Daily Star claimed that if Southampton do decide to sell their captain in this transfer window, he could cost up to £60m.

Brown thinks West Ham would send out a real statement if they managed to sign Ward-Prowse.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Star journalist said: “Signing Ward-Prowse would be a massive statement of intent for West Ham. I think it’d be a huge signing, very good for them. He’d fit there, he’d do well for Moyes and I think he could be a transformational kind of player for West Ham.”

Absolutely. As touched on earlier, the Hammers are in a situation where they could probably do with another midfielder, and Ward-Prowse proved to be one of the most effective in the country last term.

In the 2021/22 season, the England international scored 10 goals and provided five assists in the Premier League as he constantly threatened from set-pieces.
