'Gamble' - Steve Bruce could bring 101-goal star back to West Brom

Re-signing striker Mbaye Diagne would be a “gamble” for West Brom, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Diagne spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hawthorns and has been linked with a return to the Midlands.

Having joined West Brom from Galatasaray in a bid to keep them in the Premier League, the Senegalese striker scored two goals, including one in the stunning 5-2 win at Chelsea, and chipped in with three assists, although he wasn’t able to save the Baggies from relegation.

But Diagne returned to Turkey, where he’s been playing his football ever since. However, a long term femoral fracture injury led to him being released in early February, meaning he’s a free agent.

Therefore, according to the Daily Express, West Brom could make a move for the striker, who’s scored an impressive 101 goals in his career in just over 200 appearances.

Bruce is hoping to bolster his frontline following his disastrous start to life in the West Brom hotseat, having seen his side score just once and take one point from his opening four games.

But O’Rourke reckons that signing Diagne would be a risk for the Baggies manager, because he hasn’t played since December and is currently out injured.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It would be a gamble for Steve Bruce if they were to return for him because he’s not fully match fit, and Steve Bruce needs somebody to hit the ground running straight away right now.”

Diagne already has a proven record in his career and showed in his short stay last season, with five goal contributions in 16 games, that he can make a difference in English football.
