West Brom announce first transfer ahead of the summer window

West Bromwich Albion have completed their first deal ahead of the summer transfer window after confirming that they have signed Jayson Molumby.

The Irish midfielder joined the Baggies on loan from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion at the beginning of the season. A buyout option, believed to be worth around £900,000, was included in the deal.

The club have long been expected to take up the option to secure his services and they have now done so, signing Molumby to a three-year deal that will keep him at the Hawthorns until 2025.

West Brom manager Steve Bruce said that he is "really pleased" to have got the deal done and sees a lot of potential in the youngster.

“He’s a young player full of energy and passion, and we see plenty of potential in him to grow and develop further," he told Albion's official website.

“He’s only 22 and he’s already played more than 75 games in the Championship. He’s managed to force himself into our XI recently and now his challenge is to stay there by continuing to show improvements in his game.”

Molumby, who has has won 12 caps with the Republic of Ireland national team, has featured 30 times for the Midlands outfit in the Championship this season. He has scored once, away at Middlesbrough in February.
