'Hopefully' - West Brom star makes transfer wish ahead of next season

West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi wants the club to sign players in the summer transfer window that will help the team "kick on" next season as they bid for Premier League promotion.

The 28-year-old signed a contract extension this week, committing himself to the Baggies' cause until 2025. Steve Bruce has said that "the signing is key" in terms of building a squad that can challenge at the upper end of the Championship table.

At the beginning of last season it would've been suggested that West Brom already had a side capable of challenging for the top two. But the campaign gradually crumbled, Valerien Ismael got the sack, and ended up outside the play-off picture.

It's vital that Albion renew and refresh in the summer to ensure they are in the mix for at least the top six. Ajayi hopes they bring in "young and hungry" footballers so that they can get back to the Premier League and repay the support of the fans.

“We didn’t have the best of seasons last year, but they (the fans) have still stuck by us," he told the club's website. "We want to pay that support back next year by winning promotion and giving them plenty to cheer about.

“I’m excited to part of the future here. I think it was a similar situation when I signed three years ago, with about eight or nine new players coming in that summer.

“The boss and the club have spoken a lot about having an influx of young and hungry players who have something to prove. It’s always exciting to see which players join your club in the summer and I’m no different.

“Hopefully we can bring players in who are going to kick us on and I’m excited to see what the new season brings.”

The transfer window opens on 10 June this year.
