West African University Games returns to Ife

The West African University Games (WAUG) is back, this time in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ife, Nigeria, and the excitement is palpable. The WAUG is a multi-sport event for student-athletes from all over West Africa, and it is expected to attract thousands of participants from over 200 universities.

Regarded as one of the most prestigious sporting events in West Africa, it plays an important role in promoting regional unity and cooperation. The event is also a valuable opportunity for student-athletes to showcase their talents and compete at the highest level.

The games date back to 1965 when the second-ever multi-national sports event in West Africa was first birthed. The WAUG has since become a long-standing tradition with 14 editions of the game hosted across different parts of West Africa.

This year, the 15th edition of this event will be held at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ife from December 15 to 22. The university has a long and distinguished history of hosting sporting events, and it is well-equipped to accommodate the needs of the WAUG.

The OAU has a number of world-class sporting facilities, including a stadium, track and field complex, swimming pool, and tennis courts.

A variety of sports, including athletics, basketball, football, swimming, tennis, and volleyball will be featured in this event. The games will be open to student-athletes from West African universities.

The WAUG is sure to be an exciting and unforgettable event for all involved. The games are a celebration of sport, unity, and diversity. The WAUG will bring together thousands of people from all over West Africa to compete, learn, and celebrate.
