Welling United deducted point after National League charge club with breach of Rule 6.9 after striker Jay Simpson played against Dartford and Slough Town when ineligible

National League South Welling United have been deducted a point for fielding an ineligible player.

An independent panel ruled that the club were deemed guilty of failing to ensure striker Jay Simpson had the required international transfer certificate prior to participating in two matches last November.

The fixtures concerned are the 5-1 defeat at Dartford, on November 1, and a goalless draw at home to Slough Town, on November 8.

The Wings confirmed that, due to an administrative error, they were charged by the National League for breaching Rule 6.9 and the independent panel concluded the point from their draw with Slough should be deducted.

However Welling remain 15th in the National League South standings, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Simpson, 33, has since left Park View Road, with boss Warren Feeney saying upon his departure in December: "I'd like to thank Jay for his time spent with us.

"He was a model professional, but unfortunately it hasn't worked out for him here and we'd like to wish him all the best."

Welling visit second-bottom Hungerford Town on Saturday.
