Webber's 300km/h assault, Schumacher left in the air... Three crazy Belgian GP moments

The Belgian Grand Prix is up next as the Formula 1 season resumes after the European summer break. Teams and drivers are rearing to go, and we can look forward to an action-packed second half of the season. Nine races remain, and the big question is: who will be the 2022 F1 champion?

But before we answer that question, Belgium lies waiting, and so too the famous 7km Spa-Francorchamps racetrack with its challenging Turn 2-3 uphill corner, Eau Rouge. The circuit is one of the OGs on the F1 calendar and one at risk of losing its slot next season, so keep an eye on Sport24 this week for circuit news ahead of this weekend's race.

Over the years, though, Spa delivered some spectacular races and moments, which is what we'll be revisiting, albeit only three.

Schumacher's stuck!

The 2001 version of the Spa circuit looked vastly different from the modern version, especially in the final corners through the start-finish straight. But that edition of the race was also the last time two Williams drivers started on the front row: Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher. During the race, an accident occurred, forcing the race to be stopped and restarted.

With Ferrari's Michael Schumacher now the new race leader and on 'pole' for the restart, his brother took position next to him, but things went horribly wrong for Williams. Montoya had a problem with his car's rear wing, and the team scrambled to fix it before the race could resume. However, as a precaution, they tended to Schumacher's rear wing, too.
