Pedro Neto reveals Champions League ambitions amid Arsenal speculation

Pedro Neto may have dropped a hint that he is open to joining Arsenal amid speculation that the Gunners are trying to sign the Wolves winger.

Arsenal news, exclusives and analysis

It was reported on Monday, that Arsenal wanted Neto to replace the out-of-favour Nicolas Pepe at the Emirates, but Wolves aren’t too keen to sell and will only consider offers upwards of £50million for the 22-year-old.

The Portugal international is one of the highest-rated young attackers in the Premier League, having made 17 goal contributions in his first two seasons for Wolves, before a knee injury limited him to just five starts in the last campaign.

It has long been known that Mikel Arteta wants to bring a new left-sided winger to the Emirates, having previously shown an interest in Leeds’ Raphinha before the Brazilian opted to join Barcelona instead.

The Gunners seem confident that this transfer can be completed before the window shuts next week and they may have been handed a little boost, as while Neto has stated that he wants to help take Wolves to the top, he also revealed his desire to play in Europe’s biggest competition.

‘The dream of any player is to play in the Champions League,’ he told The Times.

‘I want to help this club [Wolves] to go higher and higher because I think we have that potential with the way we work, the way we sign players, the way we try to arrive there.

‘We were very close last year but it is missing something and that’s something we have to work out between us.

‘I don’t know if I could score five or 15. I don’t know. The season before last I did good work and helped the team a lot.

‘We were one of the teams that created most chances in the league and as a striker I always like to have the opportunities.’
